On Thursday April 5, 2018 and April 12, 2018, HELP New Mexico’s Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) and Senior Companion Program (SCP) conducted a National Day of Recognition for our volunteers with guest speakers, music, food, and awards in Las Vegas and Española. At the Las Vegas event State Senator Peter Campos presented HELP-NM with a proclamation from the State Senate and State Representative Tomas Salazar presented HELP-NM with a proclamation from the House of Representatives. At the Española event State Representative Debbie Rodella presented HELP-New Mexico with a proclamation. Representative Rodella told volunteers, in English and Spanish, that her grandparents and great-grandparents were her role models. Newly elected Española City Councilor, Mr. John Ramon Vigil, also presented HELP-New Mexico with a proclamation from the City of Espanola. Mr. Vigil told volunteers that “without activities and such for our younger generation, you set the goal for a lot of them. It is our job to continue to set that role.” At both the Las Vegas and the Española events our volunteers were each honored with certificates of appreciation and gift certificates from HELP New Mexico’s FGP and SCP staff. The FGP and SCP advisory council, HELP-NM Inc. board members and staff, and local board members also attended the event.
